Your Guide to a Pet-Safe Mother’s Day Bouquet

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, and we are so grateful for all the mothers out there! There are so many ways to say “thank you” and celebrate moms for all that they do, but the most common, go-to gift is a gorgeous bouquet of flowers.

If your mom, or anyone you may be gifting a bouquet to, is also a pet parent, it’s important to be mindful of the floral arrangement. Not all flowers are safe for pets, but not to worry, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) has composed a list of pet-safe flowers you can feel free to include in any Mother’s Day bouquet in order to keep your furry friends safe, happy and healthy.

Roses (Rosa sp.)
Gerbera Daisies (Gerbera jamesonii)
Sunflowers (Helianthus sp.)
Orchids (Cymbidum, Dendrobium, Oncidium and Phalaenopsis sp.)
Snapdragons (Antirrhinum majus)
Freesias (Freesia corymbosa)
Limonium (Limonium sp.) and Statice (Limonium leptostachyum)
Madagascar Jasmine (Stephanotis sp.)
Stock (Matthiola incana)
Waxflower (Etlingera cevuga)
Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflora)

PLEASE NOTE: While these plants are considered pet-safe, since they are not part of a pet’s normal diet, any ingestion may cause mild stomach upset. It is best to keep any bouquets well out of paw’s reach. If you are unsure of other flowers toxicity in your bouquet, use the full APCC plant list to check!
