Celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month with the ASPCA and the Honorable Senator Bob Dole!

Mark your calendars to meet furry friends looking for their forever homes on Saturday, October 16.

To celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and to honor our wonderful friend and animal advocate Senator Bob Dole, the ASPCA is thrilled to announce that we are partnering with the Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, Kansas, to help find loving fur-ever homes for adoptable dogs … and cats, too! Together, we are hosting Senator Bob Dole Adoption Day.

If you are considering welcoming a furry new addition to your home, it is important, now more than ever, to adopt from your local shelter. Throughout the pandemic, shelters and rescues suspended or significantly reduced their operations, relying on the incredible support of foster volunteers to help care for thousands of animals. Now, these wonderful animals are ready to continue their journeys toward new homes.

During the virtual and in-person adoption event on Saturday, October 16, people in Kansas and neighboring states will have the opportunity to meet and adopt a shelter pet of their very own. In this exciting collaboration with the Great Plains SPCA, adopters of foster pets can take 50% off of adoption fees!

As part of this special event, we are celebrating and honoring the incredible work of long-time animal advocate and champion for animals, Senator Bob Dole. During his remarkable service in Congress from 1961 to 1996, he spearheaded the passage of several landmark legislative advances to protect dogs, cats, farm animals and horses. His fierce commitment to animals has continued well past his service in Congress, including his most recent involvement in the successful repeal of Overland Park’s breed-specific legislation. He has also been a regular presence at the ASPCA’s regular PAWS for Celebration and PAWS for Love adoption events held on Capitol Hill, and he advocates tirelessly for everyone at the events to bring their next best friend home with them.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Senator Dole and the ASPCA to promote foster and long-term pets during Adopt a Shelter Dog Month,” says Great Plains SPCA. “Right now, adopters and fosters are more important than ever. We are grateful for ongoing support from organizations like the ASPCA and animal welfare champions like Senator Dole for their support in finding and keeping pets in homes.”

Along with the Great Plains SPCA, we invite you to thank Senator Dole and adopt a shelter pet with us! Sign up to participate in this virtual event.
