Here's Why Meghan Markle Isn't Opening Her Baby Shower Gifts
Open her baby shower gifts… without Prince Harry? We are aghast at the thought. And — according to, of all people, Oprah Winfrey’s BFF, journalist Gayle King — so is the Duchess of Sussex. Meghan (née Markle) is absolutely not opening any sweet shower swag without Prince Harry by her side.
“If I told you [what I bought for Meghan], then I’d have to kill you, because she didn’t open any of the gifts because she wants to do that when … she and Harry are back together,” King said on CBS This Morning on Thursday. “So I really don’t know what everybody got [her]. … I got something I think is very nice.”
How did King score an invite? Well, we wish we knew. But details are scarce on the very private event, which occurred at The Mark Hotel in New York City over the past weekend. Attendees reportedly also included Amal Clooney, Abigail Spencer and Serena Williams.
King told CBS This Morning, “It was a very, very small, private affair, and just a very special time for her. Because having a baby is a great thing — let’s not lose sight of that.”
The duchess arrived in New York City on Wednesday and enjoyed a whirlwind long weekend celebrating the upcoming arrival of baby Sussex.
King let slip a few insider details about the baby shower festivities, although she agreed that Meghan is a “very private person.”
“I hope she won’t mind me sharing this because I’ve never seen anything like this at a baby shower,” King said. “They had flower arranging. They brought in somebody to explain how to arrange flowers. We all each made an individual vase.” Each celeb-created vase was then donated to a different charity, King explained.
“I thought that was a very sweet thing,” King added. “I mean, it just speaks to who she is. She’s very kind. She’s very generous and a really, really sweet person.”
Us reported that Daniel Martin, Meghan’s wedding makeup artist, was also on hand — and he also dished up a few sweet deets, including a shot on Instagram of the baby shower’s cute cookies:
We’re thinking there were probably no diaper cakes or guess-the-baby’s-weight games at this event.
There are no reports that Beyoncé or Jay-Z were at the shower, but the music power couple had their own iconic way of celebrating the royal mom-to-be in a video from the Brit Awards.
All in all, this is shaping up to be the season of Meghan, and we are here for it, one hundred percent.
