15 Motherhood Moments That Prove Pink Is a Rockstar Mom

It’s Pink’s birthday! The musical icon and mother of two turns 44 on September 8, and to celebrate, we’re reminding everyone why she’s a rockstar mom.

Pink (whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore) has won three Grammy Awards, is recognized as a feminist and supporter of LGBTQ and animal rights, and has a mama-bear spirit that we admire so much. Pink shares daughter Willow (b. 2011) and son Jameson, (b. 2016), with former professional motocross driver Carey Hart — and both take a no-BS approach to marriage and childrearing.

“A really sweet Mama came up 2me tonight at the grocery store and told me some nice words about how she gets strength from my parenting cause I’m not afraid to f*ck up in public,” Pink tweeted in 2017. “We cried together. It’s so hard. Y’all. I wish us mamas could give ourselves and each other a break.” That year, the Raise Your Glass singer also revealed what a typical moment at home looks like. “Yeah my kid rides her bike inside,” she wrote on Instagram. “Without clothes. And helmets. While I ignore her and look at my phone.”

Overall, Pink told People in 2018, she doesn’t take gender into account when parenting. “I don’t like labels at all so I believe that a woman and a girl can do anything” later adding, “And I believe that a boy can do anything. So I have boys that flip dirt bikes and I have boy friends that wear dresses. It’s all okay to me. It’s whatever floats your boat. So that’s the kind of house that we live in.”

She’s Honest About Her Feelings

Pink doesn’t shy away from conversations about mental health struggles and how they can relate to motherhood. She told People in 2023 that, as a parent, she gets “overwhelmed all the time” and has no problem letting it all out (literally!) on a hard day.

“I cry in my closet a lot,” Pink said. “Here’s the problem when you don’t have boundaries in your house — I’ll go in the shower and have a full out loud conversation with myself and I’ll turn around and Willow’s been standing there staring at me the entire time.”
She Is Proud of Her Accomplishments

Pink received the iHeart Radio Icon Award in March 2023, and there was one comment that really left us with chills. It’s a comment we hope her kids absorbed.

“I usually do try to joke or be self-deprecating in these moments,” she said, “but I want to be a better friend to myself tonight.”

We said it then and we’ll say it again: Imagine if, at ages 11 or 6, you got to watch your mom share that message in front of the world. How incredible is it that her kids are being taught that lesson at such a young age? Because so many of us — especially women — are taught to deflect compliments or minimize our accomplishments in the name of humility. We’ve been socialized to think that pride and arrogance are one and the same. Well, Pink is teaching her kids that being proud and accepting praise is a form of self-love.
She Admits Her Fears

Pink got incredibly vulnerable with People that same year, saying she was so afraid of becoming a mother.

“I did not know I was going to have a family. I didn’t picture that for myself because I was terrified I would be a terrible mother,” she said. “But, oh my God, being a mom is the most incredible thing I’ve ever done. It’s shocking how responsible I’ve become.”
She Teaches Her Kids To Be Mindful & Charitable

Pink knows just how quickly a child’s toy box can runneth over. And so she is teaching her kids to appreciate what they have, make smart choices about what they want in the future, and give back. Every time her kids get a new toy, they have to donate eight others.

“They’re so thoughtful about it,” she said. “You know, if you make the pile yourself of the toys that you’re gonna give away, all of a sudden, it’ll be the toy that they want to play with, [even though] they haven’t thought about it in five years. So yeah, we do one toy in, eight go out.”

Then, when Willow got a job on her mom’s tour, she donated her money to help hospitals and support sloths, inspiring her little brother to do the same. And yes, we’re tearing up just thinking about it.
She Gets Real About the State of the World

In an incredibly intimate and candid interview with Drew Barrymore on the actress’ talk show (they sat criss-cross on the couch staring into each other’s eyes!), Pink talked about how she tries to prepare her kids for what’s to come.

“We have open conversations about life, and I’m trying to walk that line,” she explained. “Like, I want you to have a childhood; I want to preserve some of your innocence, but I also know that you need to be prepared for the world we live in. And not to be a Debby Downer, but these kids are having active shooter drills in school; like this is the world we live in. They need to be prepared.”

“So we go to Disneyland, we eat ice cream, and we talk about our feelings.”

On a lighter note, Pink had a funny answer when Barrymore asked what she could tell her own kids when she’s afraid they will do some of the stuff she did growing up.

“That Xanax is available?” the singer joked before adding, “I mean, we made it! Why did we make it; we made terrible decisions! The kids, they’re gonna be alright. They can borrow some of our knowledge.”
She Has No Patience for Mom-Shamers

As a famous mama, Pink has heard it all from online trolls who seem to enjoy pointing out her so-called mistakes. But Pink always has a comeback. In 2017, when the singer shared a photo of herself cooking with her children, some Instagrammers remarked that Jameson, sitting in an infant carrier, was too close to the stove. However, responding to her supportive fans, Pink shot back: “I’m relieved that most of you see the ridiculousness of the comment situation. Lord help us all.”

And when commenters went after an Instagram photo of Jameson, then 2, who wasn’t wearing a diaper by a pool, his mom fired back: “There’s something seriously wrong with a lot of you out there. Going off about my baby’s penis? About circumcision??? Are you for real? As any normal mother at the beach, I didn’t even notice he took off his swim diaper.” Referring to the critics as “disgusting,” Pink added, “And now I’m turning off my comments and shaking my head at the state of social media and keyboard warriors, and the negativity that you bring to other people’s lives.”
She’s Teaching Her Daughter Self-Respect

When Pink accepted the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2017, she dedicated her speech to Willow. “Recently, I was driving my daughter to school and she said to me, out of the blue, ‘Mama?’ I said, ‘Yes, baby?’ She said, ‘I’m the ugliest girl I know,’” Pink told the audience. “And I said, ‘Huh?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, I look like a boy with long hair.’ And my brain went to, ‘Oh my god, you’re six. Why? Where is this coming from? Who said this? Can I kick a 6-year-old’s ass, like what?’”

Pink quickly created a Powerpoint presentation with photos of celebrities whose beauty is largely considered unconventional. And after learning the root of Willow’s feelings (“I look like a boy,” she said), Pink shared that she is often told the same.

She continued: “And I said to her, ‘Do you see me growing my hair?’ She said, ‘No, mama.’ I said, ‘Do you see me changing my body?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?’ ‘Yes, Mama.’ ‘OK! So, baby girl. We don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.’”
She Doesn’t Believe In a ‘Post-Baby Body’

After Pink gave birth to Willow, she didn’t stress about her pregnancy weight. “I love to feel fit. I love to feel healthy. I wasn’t in a race,” she told People. “I was really kind to myself because I was actually really impressed with the fact that I had just had a baby, like ‘I made a human!’”

Pink also didn’t overthink her diet. “I do the best I can,” she told the outlet. “I don’t stick to it. I drink wine. Every day is a cheat day!”
She Credits Her Kids With Her Career Achievements

When Pink was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2019, she brought her entire family to the celebration, giving a shout-out to Willow and Jameson in her speech: “My children — you guys are my stars and I would never shine without you.”
She Had Honest Expectations of Motherhood

Pink has admitted that prior to having children, she wasn’t sure about motherhood. “I didn’t really want to be a mom,” she told Today in May 2021. “I didn’t not want to be a mom. But it just wasn’t on my list of to-dos.”

However, Pink quickly understood the power of maternal love. “I had Willow and, man, that saying of ‘watching your heart go walking outside of your body,’” she said. “It’s truly how it feels.”
She’s Not Obsessive About Children’s Screen Time

“Babe, Mamas just gonna take a quick nap here while this iPad babysits you,” Pink captioned a 2017 Instagram photo of herself lying on the floor at a rehearsal while Willow sat next to her with an electronic device. “Do whatcha gotta do mama,” one fan wrote under the photo.
She Holds Working-Mom Truths

Pink is fortunate for the ability to bring her children to work, but that doesn’t make the decision to do so easy. “There have been many times when I have been sitting in the corner of arena bathrooms crying and saying to myself, ‘There’s a reason why women don’t do this, there’s a reason why moms don’t do this,’ because it’s fucking impossible at times,” she told Billboard in 2019.

“The last couple of months, Willow was over it,” explained Pink. “She wants to be home and do BMX and swim team and gymnastics and all the shit that an 8-year-old wants to do. So she was asking to go home, and that’s when I knew: From here on out, it changes.”
She Encourages Her Daughter’s Artistic Abilities

At the Billboard Music Awards in 2021, where Pink received the “Icon Award,” the singer and her daughter performed an acrobatic number while singing “Cover Me in Sunshine,” co-written by the mother and daughter. “Willow nailed it,” Pink said proudly in her speech.
She Praises Hart’s Dad Skills

Although her 17-year marriage hasn’t always been smooth (the couple separated in 2008, then got back together), marital therapy has kept their love on track. And Pink respects how Hart has grown into fatherhood.

“Part of the joy I get out of parenting is watching him be a parent,” Pink said in her May documentary Pink: All I Know So Far, per PopSugar. “I knew he would be a fantastic dad, but he’s way better than I thought he’d be. He’s incredibly patient. Otherwise, how could he be with someone like me for this long?”
She Revealed Her & Jameson’s COVID-19 Diagnoses for the Greater Good

When Pink and Jameson tested positive for COVID-19 in 2020, the singer knew it was an opportunity to promote pandemic safety (Hart and Willow did not test positive). “It was really, really scary and really bad,” Pink told radio host Mark Wright, saying that she re-wrote her will in the event that she passed from the illness.

“As a parent, you think about, ‘What am I leaving for my kid? What am I teaching them? Are they going to make it in this world, this crazy world that we live in now?’” she told Wright. “‘And what do I need to tell them if this is the last time I get to tell them anything?’”

Thankfully, both mother and son recovered and Pink donated $1 million to healthcare facilities. “THANK YOU to all of our healthcare professionals and everyone in the world who are working so hard to protect our loved ones,” she wrote on Instagram. “You are our heroes! These next two weeks are crucial: please stay home. Please. Stay. Home.”
