Jesinta Franklin Uses Magnesium Oil For A Good Night’s Sleep

We’re all after a rejuvenating rest come PM but for most of us, our sleep is punctuated by extended binges of The Crown, endless Insta scrolling, snoring bedfellows and chronic overthinking.

Thankfully, we can add one more method to our repertoire of snooze hacks. Jesinta Franklin recently shared on Instagram her top tip for getting a good night’s sleep – a bottle of magnesium oil. It’s a supplement that’s applied topically rather than poured over your salad, available at most pharmacies and health stores for around $10.

“Before bed. Helps me sleep. Reduces muscle soreness,” she captioned the snap.

Magnesium is incredibly important in numerous bodily functions with evidence based benefits for boosting exercise performance, reducing PMS symptoms, and improving mental health. More importantly, studies show that it can help your body and brain relax thanks to its role in regulating the hormone melatonin (which is responsible for sending you to snooze town) and it’s been found to improve sleep quality.

The recommended daily intake for women is 310–320 mg per day, which can be consumed through foods like pumpkin seeds, spinach, black beans, quinoa, swiss chard, halibut and dark chocolate (yas!).

Dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman told HuffPo that magnesium oil is actually “just magnesium chloride that’s suspended in water” rather than an oil per se, and it’s absorbed much more effectively through contact with skin.

But always speak to your doctor before taking any new supplements.
