Today’s Carson Daly Responds to Backlash Over ‘Baby Making Juice’ Joke
Carson Daly joked about the “baby making juice” at the Today show after hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb revealed exciting pregnancy and adoption news back-to-back.
“If you’ve ever wondered what’s in our @todayshow mugs… now you know!!” the journalist, 45, wrote on Instagram Opens a New Window. on Monday, April 22. “Congrats to @hodakotb @jennabhager! I go away for a week & the family grows. God bless us all! I better watch my mug.”
In the photo, “Baby Making Juice” was written across a white Today mug with three red arrows pointing inside of it.
Not everyone found the former Total Request Live host’s joke to be funny. “This ‘it’s in the water; and ‘baby boom talk is unbelievably sensitive to Dylan [Dreyer],” one fan wrote in the comments, referring to the meteorologist’s miscarriage announcement that same day. “You can be happy for others without insinuating that getting pregnant is easy.”
The NBC personality clarified that his upload “had nothing to do with being ‘easy.’” He explained, “More that I left for a few days & 2 colleagues announced pregnancies. Dylan’s article is amazing and I love her to death!”
Shortly after Hager, 37, revealed that she and her husband, Henry Hager, are expecting their third child, Dreyer, also 37, opened up about her secondary infertility journey. She miscarried while trying to conceive her second child with husband Brian Fichera and is considering IVF.
“A part of me feels a little mad at my body for not being able to do this naturally, but that’s why we have amazing doctors and that’s why I’ve got a great support system,” the weather anchor said on the Third Hour of the Today show. “God has a plan and I pray every night, ‘Just let me stay out of your way and do what is best for us.’”
She added: “I am so happy for [Jenna, but] that is her world. This is my world.”
Her husband echoed this sentiment on Instagram Opens a New Window. , writing, “@jennabhager announced her family is expanding and that is such AMAZING news!!!! We couldn’t be happier for her!!! And she deserves to celebrate this joyous occasion guilt free! We cannot keep delegating emotions.”
Less than a week before Hager’s pregnancy reveal, Kotb, 54, called into the show to announce that she had adopted her second baby girl, Hope.
